The Flowers That Keep On Giving

So, guess what I did last Saturday?

It has something to do with the decorations on the vanilla candle pictured here.

Yep, that's right (even if you weren't trying to guess!) I took a pressed flower decorating course.

Approximately every two months, members of the Denver Botanic Gardens receive a guide discussing upcoming art that will be featured in the garden, courses, and events. After taking up space on the kitchen table for about a month, I finally dedicated an afternoon to thumbing through the pages and marking the dates of events that were of interest to me on my calendar.

I set this particular course date to notify me two days beforehand. I shrieked with delight because I'd forgotten about it, and asked my husband if he minded joining me. Although not his cup of tea at all.. he did.. but took his iPad and did not participate at all. :)

There were about 15 of us in the class, and each lady was possibly more stoked than the other about being there. Two course instructors guided us through, one brought in all of the pressed flowers and leaves, and the other helped all of us dip our candles to set our pressed flowers.

Pictured above are the two bookmarks that I created, as well as the candle and votive. We also had two cards and envelopes to decorate, but I spent so much time on my bookmarks that I had to bring the cards home, as well as extra pressed flowers to complete my project. Guess who isn't complaining!?!

This one.

It really reminded me of when I was in school. Most of the time, we'd begin art projects on Friday. More often than not, I would take mine home to complete over the weekend, fall in love with the finished product, keep it at home, and that's that.

Well that was all great, except for when I got a D in art.. because I was decorating my room with the projects and not returning it to class to be graded, haha! After reversing this bad habit, my grade went from a D one semester to an A by the next. What can I say, I just love art and creating. I'm really looking forward to my next course. I also made friends with my table mate, Marie.

A total win-win.
